AIS is committed to a future where no survivor is left behind

October 24, 2025 — This Domestic Violence Awareness Month (#DVAM), the Alliance for Immigrant Survivors (AIS) is celebrating the survivors, advocates, organizations, policymakers, and allies who make this movement possible. 

Right now, immigrant survivors are navigating unprecedented levels of uncertainty and fear. Advocates and service providers - many of whom are survivors and immigrants themselves - are stretched thin, bombarded with constantly changing policies and guidelines, and doing the impossible every day to keep doors open and communities safe. We recognize that reality, and honor the courage it takes to keep going in the face of so many challenges.

However you landed here, whether you are a case manager catching your breath on a too-short break, an attorney searching for answers as the ground shifts constantly under your feet, a survivor navigating seemingly impossible choices, or a supporter seeking ways to stand with immigrant survivors, we see you. Thank you for being here, for caring, and for being a part of our community. 

We know the threats are real. When immigrant survivors don’t feel safe reaching out for help, when they fear detention and deportation and worry that courts, law enforcement, and other typical pathways to safety aren’t meant for them, all communities suffer. Only when all survivors are believed, supported, and protected can our communities truly grow stronger.

And there is hope. We are making progress, step by step. Coalitions are in courts, fighting for our right and duty to serve all survivors by challenging unlawful grant restrictions, and they are winning. Leaders across the political spectrum are listening and pushing to strengthen emergency resources. We are seeing support for harmful bills that scapegoat immigrants and criminalize survivors wane as more lawmakers understand these proposals will not make communities safer. These are not small things - they are proof that when we fight together, our movement is powerful, and change is possible.

That’s why we at the Alliance for Immigrant Survivors are keeping our shoulders to the door. We are pushing forward legislation that protects survivors’ rights to find safety and healing, tell their stories in court, and hold harm-doers accountable, like the WISE Act, the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act, and the HEAL Act of 2025. Meanwhile, we continue to push back against harmful policies that strip survivors of critical services and lifesaving benefits, or add even more obstacles on their already perilous road to safety. We are sharing resources and offering training to ensure that advocates can continue providing critical services to all survivors.  

AIS is committed to working with partners across movements at the state and federal level, because we know that every step we take together makes it easier for survivors to take their next step on the pathway to healing. To the survivors, advocates, and allies who keep showing up: thank you. Your work matters, your voices matter, and your persistence is changing lives. To policymakers: we urge you to reject fearmongering and division, and to invest instead in safety, dignity, and justice for every survivor.

This October and beyond, AIS stands with immigrant survivors – and with all of you – committed to a future where no survivor is left behind.

La AIS es comprometida a un futuro donde ningún@ sobreviviente se queda atrás

24 de octubre de 2025 — Este mes de concientización sobre la violencia doméstica, la Alianza para Sobrevivientes Inmigrantes (AIS por sus siglas en inglés) celebra a l@s sobrevivientes, defensor@s, organizaciones, polític@s y aliad@s que realizan este movimiento. 

En este momento, l@s sobrevivientes inmigrantes enfrentan niveles de incertidumbre y miedo sin precedente. L@s defensor@s y proveedor@s de servicios - much@s que son sobrevivientes e inmigrantes ell@s mism@s - están al límite de sus fuerzas, abrumad@s por políticas y directrices que cambian constantemente, y haciendo lo imposible cada día para mantener las puertas abiertas y las comunidades a salvo. Reconocemos esa realidad y honramos el valor que se necesita para seguir adelante frente a tantos desafíos. 

Sin importar cómo llegaste aquí, ya seas un@ trabajador@ de caso tomando un respiro en un descanso demasiado corto, un@ abogad@ buscando respuestas mientras el terreno se mueve constantemente bajo tus pies, un@ sobreviviente navegando decisiones que parecen imposibles, o un@ aliad@ buscando formas de apoyar a l@s sobrevivientes inmigrantes, te vemos. Gracias por estar aquí, por importarte esto, y por ser parte de nuestra comunidad. 

Sabemos que las amenazas son reales. Cuando l@s sobrevivientes inmigrantes no se sienten segur@s pidiendo ayuda, cuando temen la detención y deportación y les preocupa que los tribunales, la policía y otros caminos típicos a la seguridad no sean para ell@s, todas las comunidades sufren. Solo cuando tod@s l@s sobrevivientes son creíd@s, apoyad@s y protegid@s puedan nuestras comunidades verdaderamente fortalecerse. 

Y hay esperanza. Estamos avanzando, paso a paso. Las coaliciones están en los tribunales, luchando por nuestro derecho y deber de servir a tod@s l@s sobrevivientes al impugnar restricciones ilegales de financiamiento, y están ganando. Líderes de todo el espectro político están escuchando y presionando para fortalecer los recursos de emergencia. Vemos que el apoyo a proyectos de ley dañinos que conviertan l@s inmigrantes en chivos expiatorios y criminalizan a l@s sobrevivientes está disminuyendo a medida que más legisladores entienden que estas propuestas no crean comunidades más seguras. Estos no son logros pequeños - son prueba de que cuando luchamos junt@s, nuestro movimiento es poderoso y el cambio es posible. 

Por eso nosotr@s en la Alianza para Sobrevivientes Inmigrantes seguimos empujando la puerta con el hombro. Estamos impulsando legislación que protege los derechos de l@s sobrevivientes a encontrar seguridad y sanción, contar sus historias en los tribunales y hacer que quienes causan daño rindan cuentas, como la Ley WISE, la Ley de Protección de Lugares Sensibles y la Ley HEAL de 2025. Mientras tanto, continuamos resistiendo políticas dañinas que les quitan a l@s sobrevivientes servicios críticos y beneficios que salvan vidas, o que añaden aún más obstáculos en su camino ya peligroso hacia la seguridad. Estamos compartiendo recursos y ofreciendo capacitaciones para garantizar que l@s defensor@s puedan seguir brindando servicios esenciales a tod@s l@s sobrevivientes. 

AIS está comprometida a trabajar con soci@s de diversos movimientos a nivel estatal y federal, porque sabemos que cada paso que damos junt@s facilita que l@s sobrevivientes den su próximo paso en el camino hacia la sanación. A l@s sobrevivientes, defensor@s y aliad@s que siguen adelante: gracias. Su trabajo importa, sus voces importan, y su persistencia está cambiando vidas. A l@s legisladores: les instamos a rechazar el discurso del miedo y la división, y a invertir en cambio en seguridad, dignidad, y justicia para cada sobreviviente. 

Este octubre y más allá, AIS se solidariza con l@s sobrevivientes inmigrantes - y tod@s ustedes - comprometid@s con un futuro donde ningun@ sobreviviente se quede atrás.
