2023 #WISEACT WEEK OF ACTION

JOIN AIS OCTOBER 23-27 TO RAISE AWARENESS
AND SUPPORT AROUND WISE ACT!

Your advocacy is key to advancing critical reforms for immigrant survivors of violence, and during this 2023 Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Alliance for Immigrants Survivors (AIS) is asking you to join us in raising our collective voices. AIS and several partner organizations are hosting the #WISEAct Week of Action — October 23 through October 27 — where, together, we can build awareness and support around the Working for Immigrant Safety and Empowerment (WISE) Act.

Here is the schedule for the #WISEAct Week of Action:

  • Monday, 10/23 (All day):  Utilize our WISE Digital Toolkit to uplift messages in support of WISE and educate your communities on this important bill

  • Tuesday 10/24 (All day): Contact your Congressperson and ask them to support WISE!

  • Wednesday, 10/25 (1pm-2pm ET): Join us and our partners in our social media power hour of action by sharing graphics and messages from our WISE Digital Toolkit

  • Thursday, 10/26 (2pm-3pm ET): Join us for an In-Person House Briefing on the WISE Act in Washington, D.C., RSVP

We look forward to having your support promoting these calls to action by including them in your organization’s email outreach, sharing via listservs, retweeting our #WISEAct Week of Action graphics, and all other creative avenues for outreach to ensure immigrant survivor needs are not forgotten!

We’ve created many WISE Act resources for you to learn more, inform your community, and take action for immigrant survivors:

The WISE Act is a comprehensive bill extending critical immigration benefits to immigrant survivors. From the very first bipartisan Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) over 25 years ago, Congress created immigration protections, like VAWA self-petitions, U and T visas, so that survivors do not have to choose between living with abuse and risking deportation or separation from their families.

In order for survivors to realize these pathways to safety, we must ensure that the need is adequately met and survivors are protected while their applications are pending. The WISE Act aims to safeguard and improve existing protections for immigrant survivors in order to help them achieve safety and justice.

Our next WISE briefing will be in person on October 26, 2023, at the Capitol Visitors Center aimed at informing Members of Congress and Hill staff about WISE. Register for free or, if you are not in D.C., watch the livestream on Tahirih's Instagram page.
